Newport, Oregon
Lying on a peninsula between the mighty Pacific Ocean and Yaquina Bay, Newport has been a
habited town for over 100 years. Newport’s entrance into Yaquina Bay has made fishing an important
part of the economy and day-to-day life of its residents. Clamming, crabbing, and fishing are big money
and big sport here. You can charter boats to take you out for a few hours to an entire day.
Newport is a tourist magnet. There are so many things to do in Newport starting
with their "The Old Bay Front" where you can watch the fishing boats come in and you can go down and
buy fish right off the docks. There are tons of fun things for families including Ripley's Believe
it or Not where there are bizarre exhibits of nature and technology. Open daily 9-8 June through Labor
Day and 10-5 the rest of the year. Allow yourself at least thirty minutes to tour. The Wax Museum features
wax creations, some animated, again allow yourself 30 minutes to tour. Open June through Labor Day 9-8 and
the rest of the year 10-5. The Undersea Gardens is another that you do not want to miss. You take an elevator
down to an underwater adventure. Watch all of the fish from the region swim by and have a scuba diving show
every thirty minutes. The times are the same as the Wax Museum and Ripley's.
