La Grande, Oregon
La Grande is the next largest town from Pendleton along Interstate 84. La Grande is home to
Eastern Oregon University. It is a small town that has most of its businesses and
restaurants on the main street, Adams Street. La Grande is a farming community, but with
lots of interesting things to do. There are year round sports with hiking in the Wallowa-Whitman
National Forest. This national forest has over 2 million acres to hike, bike, and camp in. There are 60
campgrounds in the area.
The Grand Ronde River is close to La Grande and is a fisherman’s dream with tons of trout, steelhead, and salmon. You can also be really adventurous and go white water rafting down the Grand Ronde. In the winter there is snowshoeing, cross country skiing, and plenty of snowmobiling areas.
La Grande is really a pretty city with lots to do and see. Its worth the short drive from Pendleton to catch the Eastern Oregon bug by coming and seeing this quaint town.
