OMSI (Oregon Museum of Science and Industry)

OMSI is located in southeast Portland across the Willamette River from downtown is another large attraction in Portland. OMSI is the only place in the area that has an OMNIMAX Theatre and a planetarium for laser light shows. OMSI is open between the hours of 9:00am-5:30pm each day except for Mondays when they are closed. OMSI has interactive exhibits for all ages including a chemistry lab, an earth science area where you can ride in a streetcar where an earthquake is being simulated, a biology area with a 12 foot python and many bearded dragons, tarantulas, and other worldly creatures to examine either by looking through the glass or actually getting to pet the animal with a volunteer’s assistance. There is also a children’s area (ages0-6) where they can play in a sandbox, do their own musical experiments, shop for groceries and go through a real checkout line, or participate in one of the many wonderful volunteer guided experiments. So whether it is building your own sailboat, traveling into space in a mock shuttle, or playing with the energy of magnets, OMSI is a way to let off some creative steam and gain a tremendous amount of knowledge.
